After the situation escalated, sheriff’s deputies arrived and acknowledged that we were not breaking any laws and that recording was allowed. Despite that, they attempted to photograph us, then refused to identify themselves when asked — responding with the familiar “right there” line instead.
Things took another turn when one deputy, unaware he was visible through a window, was caught texting his supervisor and referring to us with insults.
This video documents the entire encounter from start to finish.
• Recording in public spaces is not a crime.
• Government employees are not above accountability.
• The camera doesn’t cause the meltdown – exposure does.
